Carpentry
Shop
Description
The carpentry shop is located in a converted barn in Beius
and is one of the finest carpentry facilities in the region.
The youth work with professional carpentry equipment and
learn such skills as furniture and cabinet making, handling
woodcutting equipment, and designing and building house
frames, wood flooring, windows, doors, and picture frames.
After completing the program, the youngsters are prepared
to work in furniture factories and woodworking/carpentry
shops.
The
carpentry shop receives orders from Habitat for Humanity
for doors and window frames, to be used in the Habitat houses.
In addition, there are several people who have ordered furniture,
beds, windows, doors and office shelves from the Good Samaritan
carpentry shop.
Goals
Good Samaritan hopes that the carpentry shop will expand
and evolve into a small business that will generate income
for Good Samaritan in order to help additional orphans.
In addition, we would like to hire two or three orphans
in full-time, permanent positions at the carpentry shop
in order to assist with training and supervising orphans
who are in the Good Samaritan program. We also plan to develop
more extensive training for seven to 10 youngsters to better
prepare them for jobs in the carpentry industry.
